Recognize FMS and GPS Degradation
Recognize automatic GPS-sensor reversion and complete GPS loss.
Procedure
- Monitor the system message and PFD navigation annunciations when a GPS fault occurs.
- If one GPS sensor fails, verify that the FMS automatically transitions to the other available GPS sensor.
- If GPS cannot be recovered or both GPS sensors fail, recognize the amber GPS LOI annunciation on the PFD.
- Review the associated GPS-loss message on the Touchscreen Controller.
- Confirm the navigation source and available sensor status.
- Apply the approved abnormal procedure and establish an independent means of position awareness.
The system prioritizes available GPS1/GPS2 information and uses SBAS when available. A GPS LOI condition means normal GPS integrity is not available; follow the current AFM/POH and approved checklist.

Operate and Monitor in Dead Reckoning Mode
Manage navigation awareness while the system estimates position from the last known position and available sensor data.
Procedure
- Recognize that DR position is an estimate based on the last known position plus updated airspeed and heading when available.
- Expect accuracy to deteriorate with time and with changes in wind speed or direction.
- Do not use DR information as the sole means of navigation.
- Use other available navigation equipment and external position information until GPS position is restored.
- If the autopilot remains coupled, continuously verify that lateral deviation guidance is available and credible.
- Account for degraded airspace-alert accuracy.
- Recognize that SVT and forward-looking terrain alerting are disabled in DR mode.
- Apply the approved abnormal procedure and coordinate with ATC as appropriate.
Autopilot coupling can remain available, but it does not restore GPS accuracy. Increasing DR uncertainty, disabled forward-looking terrain alerting and degraded airspace alerts require independent position awareness and approved procedures.

Interpret Traffic Symbols and Advisories
Interpret traffic threat level, relative altitude, vertical trend, direction and off-scale or no-bearing alerts.
Procedure
- Identify amber Traffic Advisories separately from Proximity Advisories and other non-threat traffic.
- Read relative altitude in hundreds of feet; a value above the symbol is above own altitude and a value below the symbol is below own altitude.
- Use the up or down trend arrow only as an indication of the intruder vertical trend.
- For directional ADS-B symbols, use the pointed end and motion vector as track information, not as avoidance guidance.
- Treat TA OFF SCALE as a Traffic Advisory outside the selected display range.
- For a no-bearing TA, use the banner distance, relative altitude and trend information while maintaining an external visual search.
- Respond to every advisory using approved procedures and ATC information as applicable.
Traffic displays do not provide self-separation or a maneuver command. Bearing, altitude and trend information may be incomplete; maintain visual vigilance and use approved collision-avoidance procedures.

Interpret Airborne Weather Radar Returns and Limitations
Interpret real-time precipitation returns while accounting for beam geometry, attenuation and detection limits.
Procedure
- Confirm that the display is showing airborne weather radar rather than data link NEXRAD.
- Verify the operating mode, range, scan type, antenna tilt and gain state.
- Interpret return colors with the airborne-radar legend; do not apply NEXRAD color thresholds.
- Use tilt and vertical scan to investigate the coverage and vertical development of a return.
- Treat an apparent clear gap between intense returns cautiously because turbulence, hail or shadowed weather may be present.
- Recognize that the radar detects wet precipitation effectively but does not detect clouds, mist or Clear Air Turbulence.
- Cross-check returns with visual information, data link weather, ATC and other approved sources while maintaining the required avoidance margins.
Airborne radar provides real-time information only for precipitation detected within its beam. Distance, earth curvature, tilt, altitude, attenuation and ground returns can conceal weather. A radar top is not necessarily the true top of a storm.

Interpret AHRS Operation After GPS Input Failure
Understand how AHRS uses remaining GPS, magnetometer and air-data inputs after a GPS failure.
Procedure
- When a GPS-input message appears, identify whether one or both GPS inputs are affected.
- If one input has failed, confirm that AHRS is using the remaining GPS input.
- If both GPS inputs have failed, verify whether valid magnetometer and airspeed data remain available.
- Monitor attitude and heading indications for invalid flags or red X indications.
- Use independent instruments and the approved abnormal procedure for any degraded or invalid output.
With both GPS inputs failed, AHRS can continue attitude and heading only while magnetometer and airspeed data remain valid. In-flight AHRS initialization without GPS above approximately 200 knots true airspeed is not guaranteed.

Recognize Magnetometer Failure Effects
Recognize the expected loss of heading data while attitude remains available.
Procedure
- Recognize the associated system message or heading failure indication.
- Confirm that AHRS has entered a reversionary heading-invalid mode.
- When airborne, treat a red X on heading as invalid heading output.
- Continue to monitor attitude and other available navigation information.
- Apply the approved abnormal procedure and use an independent heading source as required.
A magnetometer failure can leave attitude valid while airborne heading becomes invalid. Do not infer valid heading from continued attitude display.

Interpret Air-Data Failure Effects on AHRS
Distinguish an isolated air-data failure from combined air-data and GPS loss.
Procedure
- Identify the invalid air-data indication and associated system message.
- If valid GPS information remains available, monitor AHRS attitude and heading output.
- If GPS information is also unavailable, recognize that invalid airspeed data can cause loss of all attitude and heading information.
- Cross-check independent instruments and sensor annunciations.
- Apply the approved abnormal procedure for the affected data sources.
The manual states that air-data input failure does not affect AHRS output while valid GPS is received. Combined GPS and invalid or unavailable airspeed data can remove all attitude and heading information.
